Olympus is the home of the Greek gods. Thus, named Olympus, the book is an Indian retelling of Greek myths by none other than , Devdutt Pattanaik.
Greek mythology, without any questions, has wonders of incidences that reason the existence of many of the monuments, constellations, zodiac signs, the emperors, their wars and the victories.
Just as there are differences, there are as many similarities between the Western and the Hindu lore , that the author focuses on in this book. But, I won't be commenting much on the Greek mythology or compare the Indian mythology with the Greek mythology for obvious reasons.
Although, when it comes to the books written by the author : OLYMPUS - an Indian retelling of the Greek Myths , JAYA - an illustrated retelling of Mahabharata , SITA - an illustrated retelling of the Ramayana, Olympus was not as gripping to read as the other two. The book felt quite monotonous and kept reiterating on the facts of infidelity, seduction, lust, rape, love making etc around which most of the stories revolve and are caused. Above all, for me the names became so confusing to register, read and adapt that it faded away my interest away in reading the book.
However, the best part of reading Devdutt Pattanaik's books are that he introduces his stories to us from the scratch how much ever familiar we are with the epics and the myths. his narration is very smooth and explanatory with the diagrams, and flow charts provided for better understanding of the characters. His riveting stories are always peppered with attractive illustrations to go, which is one of the main reasons why i look forward to read his books.
Its not just Olympus, but all of his books are worth reading. And especially for the mythology lovers out there, Devdutt Pattanaik's books are exactly what you need.
